Ingredients

Ramen: Use any brand of instant ramen noodles pack for this recipe. You may prepare chili oil noodles with any noodles pack, although it will take a little longer than instant ones.

Garlic: Many people referred to this dish as garlic chili oil noodles because garlic is a key element in the recipe and adds a great flavor to the dish.

Spring Onions: The addition of spring onions or green onions to the dish adds freshness and flavor.

Chili Flakes: Red chili flakes, a spicy flavor that ups the dish's level of spiciness, are another important component.

Oil: I prefer sesame oil while cooking Asian recipes. If you don't have sesame oil, you can substitute any vegetable oil.

Soy Sauce: I would recommend using low sodium soy sauce.

Vinegar: I used apple cider vinegar in this recipe. However, rice wine vinegar can also be used.

Others: Addition of sesame seeds gives a nutty flavor and crunch. Use salt for seasoning.

Serving Suggestions

A bowl of chili oil ramen is freshly made and served immediately. I like to top my ramen with a sunny side up egg.

You can also serve this dish with some fresh cucumber salad or cool beverages to balance out the spice level.

Variations

I've provided the simplest chili oil ramen recipe, but you can definitely elevate it by including your preferred protein. If you are a non-vegetarian, you can add meat to the dish such as chicken, beef, or pork. Shrimp can also be added to the chili oil ramen.

Vegan population can add tofu and other vegetables including mushroom, broccoli etc. in the dish.

Make Ahead

This Asian noodle recipe is a quick dish hence, you can cook fresh. However, you may make it faster by cooking the noodles ahead of time, draining the water, drizzling oil over them, and storing them. Oil prevents the noodles from sticking together.

Top tips

  • Noodles shouldn't be overcooked. Always keep an eye while cooking noodles.
  • Stir-fry the ramen over medium-high heat.
