Chocolate mug cake in microwave is an easy recipe which kid's can also try with adult's supervision. This chocolate mug cake is a kid-friendly recipe as it comes under no-fire cooking.

Easy Kid-Friendly Chocolate Mug Cake during Holidays

I always prefer homemade cakes and prepared varieties of cakes: vanilla cake, Christmas cake, and many more. This chocolate mug cake was my daughter's idea. Due to COVID-19 this year summer vacation came early and since early March she is at home. Vacation plans got cancelled, no friend's meet up or play dates. Like my daughter all the kids are literally going through a tough time. They are confined at home for long time. So, parents need to engage them in day-to-day activities like no-fire cooking, helping in laundry, gardening, etc.

One fine morning my eight year old daughter came to me and said she wants to bake chocolate mug cake in microwave. Actually, she got the recipe of chocolate mug cake from a kid's magazine. When I checked the recipe I found that it was incomplete. Then I completed the recipe and baked this chocolate mug cake together. It turned out perfect.

My daughter told me this recipe should be updated on my blog. So that many other kids who are interested in baking cake, can use this easy egg free chocolate mug cake recipe.

Ingredients for Eggless Chocolate Mug Cake in Microwave

You don't need any fancy ingredients to bake this easy chocolate mug cake in microwave. This is the quickest dessert you have ever made when you are really craving for dessert post dinner or any time of the day. Before going to the ingredients, let me tell you, this chocolate mug cake is egg free.

All purpose flour or maida is one of the primary ingredient of this quick microwave mug cake. I would not suggest to replace all purpose flour with any other flour here. If you try something different here, do let me know about the experiment!

Granulated sugar is used for the sweetness. I have used white granulated sugar and the outcome is pretty good. You can also use castor sugar, it melts quicker than the regular one.

Baking powder is required in this recipe and don't skip this little amount of baking powder.

Cocoa powder gives the chocolaty taste to this mug cake. I have used unsweetened cocoa powder. If you use sweetened cocoa powder then you have to adjust the sweetness accordingly.

Oil is used in this mug cake recipe instead of butter. Any vegetable oil you can use.

Milk is a key wet ingredient of this chocolate mug cake recipe. I have used whole milk with 2% fat.

How can I serve chocolate mug cake?

You can enjoy chocolate mug cake just like that. At times I just dust it with sugar powder or top it with vanilla ice-cream. Here I am sharing some topping options which you can try with this chocolate mug cake:

  • Scoop of Vanilla Ice-cream
  • Scoop of Peanut Butter
  • Drizzle of Salted Caramel Sauce
  • Dollop of Whipped Cream
  • Nutella
  • Drizzle of Chocolate Sauce
  • Fresh Berries (like strawberries, blue berries, etc.)

Can I make this chocolate mug cake vegan?

You can make vegan version of the chocolate mug cake. For the vegan version of this mug cake, substitute milk with almond or soy milk.

Tips and Tricks of Baking Chocolate Mug Cake in Microwave

Always use microwave safe mug for baking chocolate mug cake in microwave. Besides that, you can also use microwave safe ramekins as I have used.

Take a bigger size cup as the batter will rise during baking. Also avoid filling the mug completely. I recommend filling 2/3 of the cup so that the mug cake will get room to rise.

Keep an eye on the mug cake while baking it and cook until the center is done. Generally, it takes 90 secs in my oven however it may vary slightly in your oven.

Step-by-step Chocolate Mug Cake in Microwave

My daughter was making the mug cake so I had to make a video of the procedure. Here is a short video on making of chocolate mug cake in microwave.
