Tortillas: The base for your wrap is tortilla. Get good quality tortillas to make your wrap.

Leafy Greens: I have used lettuce leaves in the wrap. You can use any variety of lettuce here. Interestingly, you can also add baby spinach leaves, coriander leaves in your wrap.

Seasonings: I have used Indian seasoning such as turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, chaat masala powder, while marinating the paneer cubes.

Dressings: You can use any dressing of your choice. I have added simple tomato ketchup inside the wrap. You can also add green chutney to add flavor of freshness. Alternatively, you can use mayonnaise, barbeque sauce, sriracha sauce, or mustard sauce as dressing for this paneer wrap.

Oil/Butter: I have used vegetable oil for sauteing marinated paneer. You can use olive oil or butter for grilling the wrap.

Others: Yogurt, salt, etc.

Instructions

Here are the step-by-step instructions for making easy and healthy paneer wrap.

I have used store bought paneer for this recipe. You can also use homemade paneer for the same.

paneer pieces along with spices and curd

If you're using paneer from the refrigerator, soak it in warm water for a few minutes. Later, cut it into the required size.

Now, place the paneer cubes in a bowl and season with turmeric powder, red chili powder, chaat masala powder, and garam masala powder, as well as salt and yogurt. Combine thoroughly and set aside for 10 minutes.

After that to assemble the wrap, take a tortilla and spread 1 teaspoon of tomato ketchup.

Add the sautéed paneer to the veggies and top with shredded cheese.

Now fold the ends in about two inches and roll up the wraps. Repeat the process with the remaining wraps.

grilling of wrap

After assembling, heat a grill pan and brush with oil. Grill the wraps for a few minutes until crispy and lightly browned. Slice the wraps in half and serve.

Substitutions

You can substitute paneer with tofu and omit cheese & yogurt (instead use vegan substitutes) to make this as a Vegan Tofu Wrap or Vegan Wrap.

Variations

You can definitely explore some delicious variations of paneer wraps by experimenting with different paneer marinades, dressings, and a variety of vegetables.

  • Spicy Paneer Wrap: Add more spices and a spicy chutney/sauce to your wrap to give it an extra fiery touch.
  • Paneer Tikka Wrap: Infuse the classic flavors of paneer tikka in your wrap.
  • BBQ Paneer Wrap: Marinate paneer cubes with BBQ sauce and grilled. You will love the smoky barbeque flavor in your wrap.
  • You can also make other flavors like Indo-Chinese flavor, Mexican flavor, Paneer Bhurji Wrap, Mediterranean Paneer Wrap and so on.

Storage

If you want to store the wrap for shorter duration (overnight), allow to cool it to the room temperature and use aluminum foil or cling wrap for packing properly. Keep this in an airtight container or a zip-lock bag and store in the refrigerator.

If you are planning to store the wrap for 1 or 2 days, then follow the above steps for storage. However, avoid using veggies like tomato or cucumber, which may make the wrap soggy.

Top tips

  • Always use fresh ingredients for the best results. Fresh paneer offers the best texture and flavor. Crisp vegetables like lettuce, onions, and bell peppers can provide crunch and freshness.
  • Adjust the spice level to your preference by increasing or reducing chili powder or green chilies.
  • For added flavor, try other spice combinations such as peri-peri seasoning, tikka masala, or Cajun seasonings.
  • To avoid extra moisture, dry the paneer and vegetables thoroughly before cooking. Sauces and chutneys should be used in moderation; too much might make the wrap soggy.
  • Marinate the paneer for at least 10-15 minutes for a better taste. Cook over medium heat to keep the paneer moist and not dry out.
  • Avoid overstuffing the wrap because it is difficult to roll and eat. Roll the wrap tightly to prevent the filling from spilling out.

FAQ

Can I make Paneer Wraps ahead of time?

The paneer filling may be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated. Assemble the wraps right before serving.

What are the types of bread I can use for Paneer Wrap?

Primarily, tortillas are used for the wrap. You may also use rotis, pita bread, parathas or other flatbreads according to your preference.

How do I reheat the wrap?

You can reheat wrap in a microwave, oven, or stovetop. For the microwave, cover the wrap with a microwave-safe lid or another plate to retain moisture and heat for 1-2 minutes. For the oven, wrap in foil and heat at 180 degrees C (350 degrees F) for 10-12 minutes. If you want to reheat on the stovetop, heat the non-stick pan on a low flame, keep the wrap on the pan, and flip occasionally until warm.

Difference between Paneer Wrap and Paneer Frankie

The paneer wraps and paneer frankie are similar in concept but differ in their preparation, ingredients, and regional influences.
Paneer wrap is a general term for a rolled flatbread filled with spiced paneer, veggies, and sauces. It can be more versatile and can adopt flavors from Indian, Mediterranean, or Mexican cuisines. It may contain different types of vegetables along with grilled or sauteed paneer. Wide range of sauces and dressings are used here.
Paneer Frankie is believed to be originated at Mumbai and predominantly has distinct Indian flavor and coating of egg on the roti. Paneer is usually marinated with Indian spices and stir-fried onions are commonly used along with lemon juice or green chutney is applied inside.
