Thankfully, each of the items (read coffee varieties) has clear description about the ingredients present in it.
I am big fan of coffee from my school days, so each time I visited coffee retail chain outlet I tried different flavors of coffee. Has someone done similar behavior like mine? Let's start from the very basic questions.
What is cold coffee?
Cold coffee is nothing but Iced coffee and is a type of coffee beverage served chilled. It was first originated in mid-19th century and evolved since then.
What are the different varieties of cold coffee?
There are many varieties of cold coffee. including Cappuccino, Irish Coffee, Americano, Turkish Coffee, Mocha, Caramel, Hazelnut and many more. Each one taste different from the other and there is also difference in the making process. Sometimes the difference is subtle and sometimes it's a major difference. However, each one tastes awesome to a coffee lover like me.
Now it is really difficult to make out and remember each difference for common people. Recently, I visited a café which beautifully portrayed the different flavors of coffee. I immediately clicked the pic and sharing with you all.
Hope you folks find this image helpful to know your coffee. For me, it was a real quick guide to know my coffee.
According to the above list, here I have shared the basic cappuccino cold coffee recipe with vanilla ice cream.
Coffee: I prefer to use instant coffee powder for this recipe. You can also use filter coffee for the same and make the decoction. However, if you use filter coffee, it will take more time.
Milk: Full fat milk is perfect for the creamy cold coffee. You can also use skim milk for the same.
Sugar: I prefer to use powdered sugar as it dissolves quicker. You can also use caster sugar.
Ice Cream: Vanilla Ice cream is another important ingredient of this cold coffee recipe.
Others: Chocolate syrup, ice cubes, etc.
Learn step-by-step how to prepare cold coffee with ice cream.
Make a coffee decoction by combining 4 teaspoons instant coffee powder with hot water. Mix in the powdered sugar thoroughly.
Allow the decoction to cool before placing it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Take two tall glasses and randomly decorate them with chocolate syrup. Fill each glass with 3-4 ice cubes. Pour the coffee decoction into each glass in an equal amount.
Fill the rest of the glass with chilled milk and stir. Finally, top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and garnish with chocolate syrup.
Add-Ons to Cold Coffee
You can make your ice cream coffee furthermore interesting by adding the add-ons like caramel syrup, hazelnut syrup, chocolate shaving or chocolate chips, cocoa powder, etc.
Can I prepare my cold coffee without ice cream?
The combination of cold coffee with ice cream is amazing. However, you can skip the ice cream part totally.
Some recipe calls for blending of ice-cream along with milk and coffee decoction to give a creamy texture to the coffee. You can skip this and use heavy whipped cream.
Generally, ice-cream or whipped cream adds extra creaminess in your coffee. If you want to avoid both, in that case add chilled full fat milk. If you are cold sensitive, you can avoid adding crushed ice too.
Which coffee is recommended for cold coffee preparation? Instant coffee or filtered coffee.
You can use either of them, however, instant coffee makes your job really easy. If you are obsessed with filter coffee, then always use freshly brewed filtered coffee decoction. Avoid using left-over decoction.
On hot summer days if you are planning for cold coffee in the evening just prepare the coffee decoction in advance and keep it in the refrigerator and make the cold coffee in a jiffy. You can decorate your glass or coffee absolutely your own way.

Your post is not just about making cold coffee but the way you have shared details, origin, types and blah blah blah about cold coffee, it is better to call your post an encyclopaedia of cold coffee. Thank you for making us understand about cold coffee so well.
Amrita, you're so right all the different varieties of coffee that are available at famous coffee places is so confusing. I too remember my first visit to CCD and staring at the menu wondering which one I want. Back then didn't know much about the difference. Homemade cold coffee is definitely the best as we can control the sweetness and add ons. I do love it with a bit of ice cream. Perfect summer time treat.
These cold coffee images make me want some rightaway. I love the way you have drizzles the chcoclate syrup around the cup, so satisfying.
