Why Should You Make THIS Dish
- Quick and easy

- Flavorful
Ingredients
Fish: Boneless fish fillets are ideal for this fish tikka recipe. I have used basa fish also known as Pangas. You can use tilapia, salmon, cod, swordfish, mahi mahi for this recipe. If you are not getting the above-mentioned fishes, then you can use large catla (4-5 kg in size) fish fillet here. However, you have to debone it while eating.
Spices: I have used good quality turmeric powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, tandoori masala, etc. while marinating the fish. Chaat masala is sprinkled on top while serving the tikka.
Yogurt: Whenever you are making marinade with yogurt especially for kebabs and tikkas, always use Greek yogurt or hung curd. Water is squeezed out from the yogurt to make hung curd.
Ginger-Garlic Paste: I would recommend using homemade ginger and garlic paste. You can also use store bought product for the same.
Others: Vegetable oil, kasuri methi, salt, etc.
Instructions
Tandoori Fish tikka in air fryer can be made in a jiffy! Follow the below instructions to prepare this dish at your kitchen.
Usually, tandoor ovens are used to prepare fish tikka recipe however, here I have used air fryer to make this delicious restaurant style fish recipe at home.
Marination is essential for making tandoori tikka, as it deeply infuses the meat with flavor. For this fish tikka, I marinated them for a shorter period of time as the fish fillets are very delicate. Longer marination can break the fillets.
Place the fish fillets in a basin and marinate with lemon juice.
In another bowl, mix together the yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, spice powders, and salt to make the marinade.
Add the fish pieces to the marinade and coat evenly. Set aside for 8–10 minutes.
Now, line the air fryer basket with aluminum foil and place the marinated fish fillets in a single layer.
Set the temperature to 180 degrees Celsius (360 degrees Fahrenheit) and air fry for 8-10 minutes, or until crispy, depending on the thickness of the fish fillet.
Brush the fillets with oil in the middle and flip them over.
Once cooked, remove the fish tikkas and sprinkle with chaat masala before serving.
If you do not have an air fryer, still you can make this fish tikka using your oven or on stove top.
Serving Suggestions
Fish tikka is best served as an appetizer with green chutney. You can also serve it with your favorite dip. Many prefer to have fish tikka as sides along with main course (such as pulao or jeera rice etc.)
This may also be paired with a bowl of salad (such as bell pepper cucumber salad, Indian Chickpea Salad) to make a complete meal.
Variations
You can add vegetables like different types of bell peppers, onions, zucchini, etc. in the marinade and air fry along with the fish.
Top tips
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket, as this will prevent the fish from cooking evenly.
- Cooking durations may vary based on the thickness of your fish fillets and the brand of air fryer you use.
FAQ
Hung curd is a thick, creamy yogurt that is formed by straining away excess water from the curd. Line the strainer with a muslin cloth. Place the fresh yogurt in the center of the cloth. Gather the edges of the fabric and knot them together to make a bundle.
Let the yogurt drain for at least 3-4 hours. To achieve a thicker consistency, refrigerate overnight. The longer it strains, the thicker the curd will get.
