Now take the avocado flesh in a bowl and use a fork to mash it until turns smooth and creamy in texture.
Add olive oil and salt to taste. Combine thoroughly and set aside.
Now, use the toaster to toast bread pieces. You can also do it on the stovetop.
Spread the mashed avocado on the toasted bread once it has cooled.

Serving Suggestions
Mediterranean Avocado Toast is an excellent breakfast choice. However, you may have this filled toast at any time of day.
You can serve it as a complete meal along with some salads (bell pepper cucumber salad, Indian chickpea salad) on the side.
Variations
You can create lot of variations by adding different types of toppings. Here I am suggesting some of the toppings:
- Seasonings (chili flakes, Za'atar, crushed black pepper, etc.)
- Herbs (Mint, Parshley, Basil, etc.)
- Pomegranate
- Cherry tomatoes
- Bell peppers
For non-veg lovers, add scrambled egg or sunny side up on the toast.
Storage
I would recommend making the mashed avocado fresh before making the toast and will not suggest saving the leftover as it may not remain fresh in the refrigerator.
However, you can definitely make the mashed avocado couple of hours ahead of using it. If you keep for a long period, it becomes brown.
If you are storing it for longer time, squeeze a little lemon or lime juice into the mashed avocado. The citric acid helps to slow down oxidation and browning.
Top tips
- Choose a ripe avocado and for that check the FAQ section of this post.
- Use fork to mash the avocado as per your desired consistency. If you love smooth spread, then mash it for longer time.
FAQ
The key difference between two toasts is in the toppings and taste. Classic avocado toast consists of mashed or sliced avocado seasoned with salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Mediterranean-style toast, on the other hand, contains a variety of toppings, including cucumber, onion, tomato, feta cheese, and avocado.
It is important to select ripe avocados. Choose avocados that yield to light pressure. They should be soft but not mushy. If the avocado is dark green/black, yields to light pressure, and has green under the stem, it is ripe.
