Toast is a versatile and popular food. We can have it for breakfast, a snack, or as part of a meal in a variety of ways. There is something for everyone, from regular buttered toast to more creative toppings such as avocado, peanut butter, and even gourmet spreads.

this Easy Mediterranean Avocado Toast with Feta is one of my go-to recipes when I need something quick, healthy, and satisfying. I love combining creamy avocado with salty feta cheese and fresh vegetables to create a toast that is both nutritious and full of flavor.

Why Should You Make This Avocado Toast

Ingredients for Mediterranean Style Avocado Toast Recipe

Bread: I have used normal sandwich bread slices. You can use French loaf, sourdough bread or any other varieties of bread.

Avocado: Use a perfectly ripe avocado for this recipe.

Vegetables: I have used cucumber and tomato slices for topping.

Cheese: Feta cheese completes the taste of Mediterranean Avocado Toast.

Others: Olive oil, salt, toasted sesame seeds, olives, etc.

Instructions

Learn to make this delicious open avocado toast for breakfast by following step-by-step instructions.

Use a knife to cut the avocado in half lengthwise around the pit. Now twist the two halves to separate them.

Gently remove the pit. After removing the pit, use a spoon to scoop out the flesh from both halves.

Now take the avocado flesh in a bowl and use a fork to mash it until turns smooth and creamy in texture.

Add olive oil and salt to taste. Combine thoroughly and set aside. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice to keep the avocado fresh and enhance its flavor.

Next, toast the bread slices until they are crisp and golden brown. You can use a pop-up toaster or toast the bread on a stovetop pan over medium heat, flipping once or twice for even browning.

toasting bread

Once toasted, let the bread cool for a minute. This prevents the avocado from becoming warm and soggy.

Spread a generous layer of the mashed avocado mixture over each toasted bread slice. Arrange the tomato slices and cucumber slices on top.

Sprinkle crumbled feta cheese evenly over the vegetables and finish with a scattering of toasted sesame seeds for extra crunch and nutty flavor.

Serve the Mediterranean Avocado Toast with Feta immediately while the toast is still crisp and the toppings are fresh. It makes a quick, healthy, and satisfying breakfast, brunch, or light meal.

Serving Suggestions

Mediterranean Avocado Toast is an excellent breakfast choice. However, you may have this filled toast at any time of day.

You can serve it as a complete meal along with some salads (bell pepper cucumber salad, Indian chickpea salad) on the side.

Variations

You can create lot of variations by adding different types of toppings. Here I am suggesting some of the toppings:

  • Seasonings (chili flakes, Za'atar, crushed black pepper, etc.)
  • Herbs (Mint, Parshley, Basil, etc.)
  • Pomegranate
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Bell peppers

For non-veg lovers, add scrambled egg or sunny side up on the toast.

Storage

I would recommend making the mashed avocado fresh before making the toast and will not suggest saving the leftover as it may not remain fresh in the refrigerator.

However, you can definitely make the mashed avocado couple of hours ahead of using it. If you keep for a long period, it becomes brown.

If you are storing it for longer time, squeeze a little lemon or lime juice into the mashed avocado. The citric acid helps to slow down oxidation and browning.

Top tips

  • Choose a ripe avocado and for that check the FAQ section of this post.
  • Use fork to mash the avocado as per your desired consistency. If you love smooth spread, then mash it for longer time.

FAQ

Difference between Classic Avocado Toast and Mediterranean Avocado Toast

The key difference between two toasts is in the toppings and taste. Classic avocado toast consists of mashed or sliced avocado seasoned with salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Mediterranean-style toast, on the other hand, contains a variety of toppings, including cucumber, onion, tomato, feta cheese, and avocado.

How to select a ripe avocado?

It is important to select ripe avocados. Choose avocados that yield to light pressure. They should be soft but not mushy. If the avocado is dark green/black, yields to light pressure, and has green under the stem, it is ripe.
