How to make Chicken Sandwich with Mayonnaise

Learn to make this budget-friendly simple chicken and mayo sandwich by following step-by-step instructions.

This recipe can be grouped into four major steps:

Prepare the Chicken

If you don't have cooked chicken, start by boiling boneless, skinless chicken breasts in water for 10-12 minutes or until fully cooked. Let it cool slightly.

Alternatively, you can also pressure cook the chicken for 1-2 whistles.

Avoid discarding the chicken stock. After cooling the stock, keep in the refrigerator and use it in your soup or chicken curry.

You can also grill or pan fry the chicken pieces.

Once the chicken is cool enough to handle, shred it into small, bite-sized pieces using a fork or your hands.

Prepare the Filling

In a bowl, add the shredded chicken, lettuce leaves, and mayonnaise. Mix well until the chicken is evenly coated. Sprinkle in pepper powder and now the filling is ready.

Prepare the Bread

Take the slices of bread and carefully remove the crust using a knife or your hands.

If you like your sandwich with a bit of crunch, toast the slices of bread lightly and this step is completely optional.

  • Spicy Chicken Mayo Sandwich - For a spicy kick, mix in some hot sauce or chili sauce and finely chopped jalapeños in the stuffing. Adjust the heat level according to your preference.
  • Grilled Mayo and Chicken Sandwich: Instead of boiled chicken, use grilled chicken for a smoky flavor. Also, after placing the filling between the bread, butter both sides of the sandwich, and grill it.
  • Cheesy flavor Sandwich: Add a slice of cheese to the sandwich to make it extra creamy and flavorful. You can also melt the cheese if you prefer a warm sandwich.

Storage

If you're planning to eat the sandwich within a few hours, simply wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, parchment paper, or place it in an airtight container.

The sandwich can typically be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4-6 hours before it starts to lose its freshness.

Top tips

  • Use good quality chicken for better results.
  • Finely shred or dice the chicken for even distribution and easier mixing with the mayo.
