About Parfait

The term "parfait" originates from the French word meaning "perfect." The term refers to a layered frozen desserts from the late 18th century.

Inspired by the traditional parfait recipe, innovative American parfait recipes were created by layering whipped cream or ice cream, fresh or canned fruits, and nuts in a glass.

Later, in American dessert parfaits, cream substituted with yogurt, and muesli or granola in layers with fruits became a popular choice for a nutritious breakfast in a glass.

Ingredients

Banana: I have used small variety banana here. However, you can use any variety of banana for this breakfast recipe. You can also use frozen banana for the same.

Yogurt: This is a key ingredient of this recipe. Chilled yogurt is apt for the recipe. You can also Greek yogurt for banana parfait. Interestingly, addition of flavored yogurt can enhance the taste of this parfait recipe.

Muesli: It provides the crunch to the dish. You can use any flavor of muesli in this recipe. You can also substitute muesli with granola.

Others: Dry fruits and nuts, Honey or Maple syrup, etc.

Instructions

Follow the step-by-step instructions to prepare this easy banana yogurt parfait for breakfast.

Here I am sharing the recipe for single serving, and you can simply double or triple the recipe as per your requirement.

Peel and slice the bananas and keep aside.

Now take a glass or a mason jar to prepare this parfait recipe.

Put 1/2 cup of muesli in the bottom layer. Now layer half of the yogurt and few banana slices on top of the yogurt.

Repat layering with the remaining muesli, yogurt and sliced banana. Drizzle honey on top layer and this is completely optional.

Finally top it with dry fruits and nuts and few more banana slices. Now your healthy banana yogurt parfait is ready. If you are making it in a mason jar, cover it with a lid, and it is ready to take on the go.

Note: Normally, the layering of the parfait recipe starts with addition of yogurt in the bottom layer. However, I prefer the crunchy bottom layer of the parfait, hence I start layering with muesli.

FAQ

Can I make banana yogurt parfait ahead of time?

Yes, you can make Banana Yogurt Parfait with Muesli ahead of time. Layer the yogurt and banana in a jar or airtight container and refrigerate it. Add the muesli, nuts, and honey just before serving to keep them crunchy. If packing it for a lunchbox, drizzle the honey and sprinkle the muesli right before eating for the best texture.

What can I use instead of muesli?

You can easily substitute muesli with other crunchy or wholesome ingredients. Granola is the closest alternative, while rolled oats, crushed digestive biscuits, cornflakes, puffed rice, or chopped nuts and seeds also work well. Each option adds a different texture, but they all pair beautifully with banana, yogurt, and honey.

Which type of yogurt is best for layering a parfait?

Use Greek yogurt or thick hung curd instead of regular yogurt. It holds its shape, prevents watery layers, and keeps the parfait creamy and fresh.
